Annual Thompson Lecture: "I Goofed: Humility and Recovery After a Blunder"

Description: University of West Florida Professor Athena du PreŽ will deliver the 30th annual Wayne N. Thompson Professor Lecture virtually from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Monday, March 28.

The lecture is titled, "I Goofed: Humility and Recovery After a Blunder," and can be joined via Zoom at wiu.zoom.us/j/92955097954. The event is sponsored by the WIU Department of Communication.

Du PreŽ is a Distinguished University Professor at the University of West Florida, where she directs the master's degree program in Strategic Communication and Leadership, and graduate-level certificate programs in Executive Leadership and Health Communication Leadership. She also teaches courses in leadership, health communication, workplace dynamics and interpersonal communication.

With diverse experience working in journalism, public relations and higher education, her knowledge converges in the fields of leadership and health communication. She has authored or co-authored five books and several chapters and articles on aspects of communication and has received the Teaching Incentive Program award, twice received the University's Distinguished Teaching Award, and was named UWF's Distinguished University Professor in 2014.

The Wayne N. Thompson Lecture is named to honor WIU alumnus Wayne Thompson, who was a former professor of speech communication. An endowment in his name helps sponsor a number of department programs to enhance learning and scholarship in the field of communication, including this lecture by a prominent scholar in the field.
