- Panel Discussion: Experiences and Perceptions of Asians and Asian Americans at WIU and in Western Illinois
- Time: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
- Location: Malpass Library Garden Lounge and streaming via Zoom
- Description: Since six Filipino students first came to Western in 1905, Asians and Asian Americans have comprised a vibrant element of the university's history. But that history has, at times, been marked by stereotypes, and discrimination.
This panel will offer perspectives of several individuals who identify as of Asian or Asian American background on their experiences at WIU and in the Western Illinois region. The event, sponsored by the Department of History, is partly a response to instances of anti-Asian discrimination and violence recently reported in the United States. The event seeks to help make Asian and Asian American experiences visible. The panel accompanies an exhibition of artifacts on the same subject on display in the Malpass Library third floor hallway from mid-March through the early summer, and online. - Related Web Site: History Facebook Page
