Office Support Specialist
School of Computer Science
Anne works as an Office Support Specialist in the School of Computer Sciences in Stipes Hall. Anne began her career at WIU in December 1986 as a Secretary II and has progressively promoted to her current position. Ann serves as a support to the Director and the department's faculty members. She is responsible for the student assistants, the departmental budget, the maintenance of the grad files and a valuable resource for the faculty. When asked what she likes most about her job, she shared, "I enjoy all the people I've met here in 27 years—in all areas of campus. They have been very willing to help when I've asked and they helped me learn more about all areas of campus." Anne's advice to prospective employees is to get your foot in the door, then work your way up—decide where you would like to be. She responded, "WIU is a good place to work with good benefits." One of Anne's most memorable experiences is when she worked in the Registrar's Office the staff threw a surprise baby shower for her when she was pregnant with her first child. "They sent me out to pick up pizza for us all, and when I got back, they had decorated the office for a baby shower! I was so touched. I felt so special—that really meant a lot to me!" Anne credits the supervisors she has had over the years with one thing that has helped her in her job. "All of my bosses have been very supportive and encouraging. They were and are very good to work with. They are understanding and good at their job." Anne enjoys attending the concerts at the College of Fine Arts and Communication Recital Hall, but she also enjoys spending lots of time with her husband riding their Harley!
HR salutes Anne Whited as one of our many committed Civil Service employees at WIU!
