"Always work in your job as if the success of that business relies solely on your hard work, no matter what you do!" -Jennifer's Dad
Jennifer works as a Clerk in the Women's Studies Department in Currens Hall. Jennifer began her career at WIU in December 2009. Jennifer is responsible for the department's budget, ordering supplies and negotiating costs, and organizing faculty evaluations. She orders the desk copies and book orders for the faculty members. She shared, "I try to do whatever is needed to help the department." When asked what she enjoys most about her job, she responds, "I like the people interaction—it's the people in the building I like most. I enjoy organizing social activities for the whole building—I began a coffee hour, and celebrating birthdays in the building." She enjoys building relationships with those she works closely with. Jennifer's advice to prospective employees? "Try every avenue. Be familiar with who you are speaking to—learn names, stay in contact frequently. "Renee Simpson, in Human Resources, was a HUGE help to me when I was trying to get a position here. I called her every week regarding the former 'Trainee Program.' She told me about the Extra Help opportunity. I asked for guidance, and used the resources to find out how to improve." One of Jennifer's most memorable experiences occurred last year when she received the Civil Service Recognition Award. She shared, "I was allowed to read what faculty had written about me—it was very touching to hear what they thought of my work here." Jennifer shares some of the people that have helped her in her job: "Those who came before me and neighboring office staff have been EXTREMELY helpful teaching me what I didn't know at first. Susie Fowler is teaching me how to use the departmental web page; Fran Hainline was my "go-to" person—she helped me in great detail with faculty evaluations; Karen Peitzmeier is my "go-to" person with software programs…MANY people have been great help to me!" One of Jennifer's favorite things to do on campus is to take a walk through the beautiful campus. Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family…specifically "snack & game nights" which they have often!
