Advancement & Public Services
Like many international students, I came to Western Illinois University from across the world for my education. What I found was a community that embraced me and my culture while providing the opportunity to immerse myself in a new one. Maybe your experience is like mine.
Western’s English as a Second Language (WESL) program was the key to my successful transition here, and if you were also a student of this program, I’m sure you can remember the benefit of speaking with conversation partners, sharing time in class and trips to see museums, plays and sporting events.
I also enjoyed the opportunity to present Chinese culture in the International Bazaar, and participated in the Host Family program my first semester. By providing these and other opportunities to international students like me, Western demonstrates its commitment to being a global university.
Many of you are now far away from campus, but hopefully you have wonderful memories of what was provided to us. A gift to the Center for International Studies can support the WESL Program, scholarships for international students and can also provide travel opportunities through the study abroad program.
No matter where you are now, I hope you will consider honoring our university with a gift to help other international students benefit as we have.
