Undergraduate Admissions Visit Programs Severe Weather Protocols

Western Illinois University Undergraduate Admissions will make every effort to provide consistent visit opportunities for prospective students. Visit events may be altered at the discretion of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to ensure the safety of our campus visitors and tour guides.

The campus walking tour will be replaced with a virtual tour presentation and a student panel discussion under the following conditions:

  • Thunder/lightning
  • Tornado watch/warning
  • Extreme cold
  • Extreme heat
  • Other severe or dangerous weather conditions

This alternate presentation will still provide valuable highlights of campus and insights from Admissions Ambassadors.

Extreme cold and heat will be determined by the university’s weather advisory system. If WIU issues a weather advisory, campus tours will be suspended. If the campus remains open, visit presentations will take place and virtual tours will be offered.

Please note, visits will not be altered by non-threatening conditions and occasionally take place in rain and uncomfortable temperatures. Please dress for the weather and bring an umbrella if necessary.

In the rare instance when WIU experiences a weather-related campus closure, all visit programs and tours will be canceled. Campus closure announcements will be available at wiu.edu.
