Desktop and Hardware Support Services
Desktop and Hardware Services provides the following services to assist WIU faculty and staff. While this is not an inclusive list, it highlights the most common services provided.
- Hardware/software troubleshooting and support for office desktop and laptop machines (in warranty).
- Limited hardware/software troubleshooting and support for office desktop and laptop machines (out of warranty).
- Printer troubleshooting and repair (i.e., paper jam, connectivity)
- Installation of standard software image (system setup) on office Windows and Mac computers.
- Software installed at time of setup
- Windows/Mac computer network setups
- Network and local printer setups
- Hardware and software purchasing recommendations
- Setup and troubleshooting of Windows Mobile and iTouch/iPhone devices
Desktop and Hardware Services installs the following software on WIU owned systems at the time of setup:
- Microsoft Office 2007 (Windows) or Microsoft Office 2008 (Mac)
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Microsoft Access (Windows Only)
- Microsoft Publisher (Windows Only)
- Firefox 3.5
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.0
- Symantec AntiVirus 11.0 (Windows)
- Symantec AntiVirus 10.2 (Mac)
Other software is available for Faculty/Staff use, but is not part of the typical standard installation (Can be requested through Support Center)
- SPSS – Latest version for both Windows and Mac
- SAS 9.2 (Windows only)
- Microsoft Project 2007 (Windows only)
In addition to the software that Desktop and Hardware Services typically installs, other software is supported.
- Windows XP or Windows 7
- Mac OSX 10.4 and higher
- Limited support for Microsoft Office 2003
- Limited support for Adobe Acrobat 8.0 and earlier
- Other software is supported in a limited fashion depending on time and workload
