Each month, Strategic Plan Updates provide a discussion of current progress being made in the areas addressed by Western's Higher Values in Higher Education 2008-2018 Strategic Plan. These updates are provided in PDF format.

2020 Monthly Updates

  • February 2020 Update:
    Synopsis: This month’s Strategic Plan Update seeks your feedback on a revised draft to Criterion 1 from the University’s Self Study for Reaffirmation of Accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. Supporting tables with data collected thus far are also included.
  • January 2020 Update:
    Synopsis: This month’s Strategic Plan Update contains a follow up item discussed at the December 2019 Western Illinois University Board of Trustees meeting. Specifically, the power point presentation for the Fiscal Year 2020 Master Plan Update is now available at www.wiu.edu/university_planning/masterplan.php.

  • December 2019 Update:
    Synopsis: On behalf of the Social Responsibility Task Force, this month’s Strategic Plan Update seeks your feedback on a revised draft of Criterion 5 for the University’s Self-Study for Reaffirmation of Accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. Criterion 5 focuses on resources, planning, and institutional effectiveness.
  • November 2019 Update:
    Synopsis: On behalf of the Social Responsibility Task Force, this month’s Strategic Plan Update seeks your feedback on a revised draft of Criterion 4 for the University’s Self-Study for Reaffirmation of Accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. Criterion 4 focuses on organizational outputs and outcomes.
  • October 2019 Update:
    Synopsis: This month’s Strategic Plan Update seeks your feedback on a revised draft of Criterion 3 for the University’s Self-Study for Reaffirmation of Accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. As you will recall, there are five criteria for accreditation and federal compliance requirements that WIU must meet in order to receive reaffirmation of accreditation. Maintaining accreditation is required for credit hours and degrees to be transferable and for the University to administer federal financial assistance.
  • September 2019 Update:
    Synopsis: This month’s Strategic Plan Update provides you with membership for the Academic Year 2019-2020 Social Responsibility Task Force. The Task Force will prepare a revised draft of the University's self-study for re-affirmation of accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission.
  • August 2019 Update:
    Synopsis: The Fiscal Year 2019 Annual Report for the President’s Executive Institute (PEI) was tabled at the June 14, 2019, Board of Trustees meeting due to meeting length. As indicated at the meeting, this month’s Strategic Plan Update provides you with the information that was to be presented at the Board meeting.   • July 2019 Update:
    Synopsis: The quarterly PowerPoint presentation for the FY19 Positioning Western Illinois University for the Future was tabled at the June 14, 2019, Board of Trustees meeting given the length of the meeting. As indicated at the meeting, this month’s Strategic Plan Update provides you with the last quarterly update on this Plan that had six goals. Reporting on Goal 2 includes the status of eight guiding principles announced by the President’s Leadership Team on June 28, 2018.
  • June 2019 Update:
    Synopsis: This month’s Strategic Plan Update provides an executive summary on the status of actions included in the 2019-2020 Strategic Plan Supplement. Please note that Supplement includes an 11th item, as discussed at the June 14, 2019 Board of Trustees meeting.
  • May 2019 Update:
    Synopsis: Previous January-April 2019 Strategic Plan Updates have solicited university-wide feedback on the five criteria for accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. This month’s Strategic Plan Update provides a summary of evidence demonstrating that WIU meets or is addressing HLC criteria, core components, and subcomponents. I am seeking your feedback on items to add, edit, or delete by the end of the day Friday May 17th.
  • April 2019 Update:
    Synopsis: This month’s Strategic Plan Update follows a process started in the January 2019 Strategic Plan Update. Specifically, on behalf of the Social Responsibility (University Planning) Task Force, I am seeking your feedback on items needed for inclusion in Criterion 5 in the University’s Self-Study for Reaffirmation of Accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission.

Specifically, I am seeking your feedback on items needed for inclusion in Criterion 4 in the University’s Self-Study for reaffirmation of accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

    Synopsis: This month’s Strategic Plan Update follows a process started in January 2019 Strategic Plan Update by seeking your feedback to items needed for inclusion in Criteria 2 and 3 in the University’s Self-Study for reaffirmation of accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

    Synopsis: This month’s Strategic Plan Update provides an update on the University’s Self Study for reaffirmation of accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), development of the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 Strategic Plan Supplements, and seeks your input on these matters.
