Strategic Planning Updates

Each month, Strategic Plan Updates provide a discussion of current progress being made in the areas addressed by Western's Higher Values in Higher Education 2008-2018 Strategic Plan. These updates are provided in PDF format.

2015 Monthly Updates

  • May 2015 Update:
    Synopsis:  This month’s Strategic Plan Update provides samples of academic year 2014-2015 accomplishments and academic year 2015-2016 plans related to the continued successful advancement of Higher Values in Higher Education. The materials presented in this Update are from the annual planning and accomplishments presentations made to the University community by the vice presidents and areas that report to the president on April 30th and May 1st.
  • April 2015 Update:
    Synopsis:  This month’s Strategic Plan Update invites and provides you with the schedule for annual planning and accomplishments presentations made by the vice presidents and areas that report to the president. This year’s presentations are scheduled for April 30th (9:00 – 12:00) and May 1st (9:00 – 12:00) in the Capitol Room in the University Union and they will be broadcast to Riverfront Hall, Rooms 103-104, in the Quad Cities.
  • March 2015 Update:
    Synopsis:  This month’s Strategic Plan Update shows how many reports and resolutions presented at the March 27, 2015, Western Illinois University Board of Trustees meeting are directly related to successful advancement of priorities and goals in Higher Values in Higher Education and the Long Term Plan for Western Illinois University.
  • February 2015 Update:
    Synopsis:  Last month’s Strategic Plan Updateprovides background information, process and results, and next steps for updating Western Illinois University’s peer groups used for evaluating non-salary comparisons of institutional effectiveness. Results from peer group analyses and benchmarking continually informs university planning, Strategic Plan implementation, and institutional accountability reporting. The latter includes annual Performance Reports provided to the Western Illinois University Board of Trustees. These are available at www.wiu.edu/university_planning/annualperformancereports.php.
  • January 2015 Update:
    Synopsis:  Last month’s Strategic Plan Update provides background information, website reference, schedule, and next steps related to Western Illinois University’s February 2-3, 2015, Campus Evaluation Visit from representatives of the Higher Learning Commission-North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

2014 Monthly Updates

  • December 2014 Update:
    Synopsis:  Last month’s Strategic Plan Update provided data from Washington Monthly’s annual college rankings to show how the University is advancing its vision of being a leader in quality, opportunity, and affordability, and supporting the core values of educational opportunity and social responsibility.
    This month’s Strategic Plan Update provides further evidence from Money Magazine’s 2014 Best Colleges Rankings to show how the University’s is advancing quality, affordability, and student outcomes. It also shows how many of the reports and resolutions presented at the December 19, 2014, Western Illinois’ University Board of Trustees meeting advance the goals and priorities of Higher Values in Higher Education.
  • November 2014 Update:
    Synopsis:  This month’s Strategic Plan Update provides national comparative data to show how the University is successfully advancing the vision and values of Higher Values in Higher Education.
  • October 2014 Update:
    Synopsis:  This month’s Strategic Plan Update shows how many reports and resolutions presented at the October 3, 2014 Western Illinois University Board of Trustees meeting directly relate to the continued successful advancement of the priorities and goals in Higher Values in Higher Education and the Long Term Plan for Western Illinois University.
  • September 2014 Update:
    Synopsis:  This month’s Strategic Plan Update shows how the students, faculty, and staff of Western Illinois University continue to advance the vision the mission, vision, and values of Higher Values in Higher Education.
  • August 2014 Update:
    Synopsis:  This month’s Strategic Plan Update provides information on the September 3rd Grand Opening for Phase II of the Western Illinois University-Quad Cities Riverfront Campus, and for the September 14th and 24th off-campus location review from the Higher Learning Commission-North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
  • July 2014 Update:
    Synopsis:  At the June 6, 2014 Western Illinois University Board of Trustees meeting, it was announced that 1,460 students (1,175 undergraduate and 285 graduate) earned academic degrees after the Spring 2014 semester, and 32 faculty members earned tenure. This month’s Strategic Plan Update shows how the academic excellence and educational opportunities continued at Western Illinois University during the summer semester. It also shows that as the University continues preparation for academic year 2014-2015, there will be even more educational opportunities promoting academic excellence, personal growth, and social responsibility.

    Synopsis:  This month’s Strategic Plan Update shows how many reports and resolutions presented at the March 28, 2014, Western Illinois University Board of Trustees meeting are directly related to successful advancement of the priorities and goals in Higher Values in Higher Education and the Long Term Plan for Western Illinois University.

    Synopsis:  This month’s Strategic Plan Update exemplifies how the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Western Illinois University continue to advance the University’s values of academic excellence, educational opportunity, personal growth, and social responsibility. The accomplishments discussed below also advance the priorities and goals of Higher Values in Higher Education and the Long Term Plan for Western Illinois University.
  • January 2014 Update:
    Synopsis:  This month’s Strategic Plan Update discusses Western Illinois University’s participation in the Higher Learning Commission’s Persistence and Completion Academy. This includes an invitation for all interested members of the campus community to serve on subcommittees studying and improving freshmen retention in Macomb and the Quad Cities; and also a subcommittee studying and improving retention of on-line students.
