Pledge

I pledge to live a more sustainable lifestyle. I will consider the environmental, social, and economic impacts of my daily decisions and make every effort to be responsible in these areas. I will also share my individual sustainability efforts with others at Western Illinois University and in my community.

Commitment to WIU Sustainability

By committing to do at least some of the actions below, I am joining others to help create a more sustainable WIU.

I Pledge to:

  • Reduce and Reuse before I Recycle
  • Pick up one piece of trash a day
  • Recycle my cell phone and other electronics
  • Recycle all of my glass, metal, paper and plastic
  • Use a refillable water bottle and reusable coffee cup
  • Walk, bike or take the bus
  • Look for ways to go digital to reduce waste: books, magazines, music, or movies
  • Power down by turning off lights and electronics
  • Donate reusable goods like clothes, books and furniture through the Residence Hall program
  • Eat more plants! Fruits and vegetables take less energy to produce from seed to table than other foods and they are good for me
  • Use both sides of a piece of paper when taking notes or printing
  • Carry a reusable bag for shopping
  • Share my ideas about sustainability
