University Events

Part of being engaged in a fraternity or sorority is being engaged with your campus community. Our members take great pride in being involved in a number of university-wide events through participation or volunteering.

New Student Move In

This is the first opportunity for new students to interact with fraternity and sorority members. Our members, as well as other students and student groups, enthusiastically volunteer to help students move into their new home away from homes. It is the goal of UHDS and our fraternity/sorority community to assist in making the transition to Western a smooth one. We are focused on getting you moved in and settled, not necessarily on recruiting you to join. There will be plenty of time for that. You will be able to spot our members with some identifier, so if you are interested in joining please feel free to ask.

Rocky After Dark

Rocky After Dark is the first night of fun for Western's academic year. Hanson Field is turned into a carnival of events for all of WIU's students, staff, and administrators! It is a great event for all. You will find many members of our organizations wandering around, in letters, enjoying the atmosphere and answering any questions you have. You can also find our Governing Council Executive Boards and Panhellenic Rho Gammas (Recruitment Guides) at the concession stand serving drinks.

Homecoming is a BIG deal at Western. Students, including our residence halls and fraternity/sorority organizations, are involved in the eight days of events to celebrate Western Illinois University. Teams participate in a number of competitions throughout the week to show their WIU spirit. The week culminates when the Fighting Leathernecks take on their opponent on Hanson Field. It is also a great time for organization alumni to reconnect with their chapter history and current active undergraduate members.

Big Pink Volleyball

The Big Pink Volleyball Tournament is a philanthropic event co-sponsored by Campus Recreation and Thompson Hall to raise funds for breast cancer charities. Teams play with a four-foot wide, hot pink volleyball. Proceeds will be donated to the McDonough District Hospital  Dolores Kator Switzer Women’s Center.  Participants may contribute by participating on a team, purchasing a shirt, or by making a donation.

Fraternities and sororities will field teams in a FSL only division. The winner of that division will go on to play the winners of all other divisions.
