Degrees at a Distance Program for Fire Fighters
National Fire Academy Certificates

Students enrolling in Degrees at a Distance Program (DDP) courses may obtain a variety of National Fire Academy certificates including:

Certificate of Achievement

Available to any student who successfully completes any DDP course at Western Illinois University, these certificates are the same as those awarded for resident courses at the NFA in Emmitsburg, Maryland. An application form for the certificate is included in the DDP course materials and must be submitted to the course instructor or the Non-Traditional Programs office.

Certificate of Graduation

House Fire.Available to any student who earns the WIU Board of Trustees Bachelor of Arts Degree and completes the seven core DDP courses and three additional courses in one of two areas of concentration for a total of 30 semester hours of credit.

The specific DDP course requirements to earn the Certificate of Graduation include a total of 10 courses; the seven core courses, plus three courses from one of the two concentrations.
