University of Mannheim Exchange Program

The University of Mannheim is located in Mannheim’s palace, the largest baroque palace in Germany. The lecture halls are close to the center of the city and only a five minute walk to the banks of the Rhine. About 800 scholars and 11,000 students enjoy the privileges of this unique setting and atmosphere.

Program Details

General: You are REQUIRED to follow the COVID-19 policies of your host school, host country, the CDC and TSA. It is your responsibility to know and understand these policies. If policies change before or during your program, it is your responsbility to comply with the new policies. Failure to do so can result in removal from your program and/or the host country, financial consequences and academic consequences at the host school and WIU. The University of Mannheim is located in Mannheim’s palace, the largest baroque palace in Germany. The lecture halls are close to the center of the city and only a five minute walk to the banks of the Rhine. About 800 scholars and 11,000 students enjoy the privileges of this unique setting and atmosphere.

Semester Programs: Students can participate in a semester or academic year exchange at Mannheim where they will have opportunities to take coursework in English in a variety of disciplines. Students will also have access to German language courses. 

Summer Program: The Summer School is a three-week summer program where students can take courses in the humanities. Students will choose 2 courses and complete 6 semester hours during this program. More information about the summer program can be found on the program page.

 

Intensive German Language Program: Students can take intensive German language courses at any time of the year. The courses are month-long and are a great option for students looking to improve their German language skills or complete a minor. Housing and Meals: Accommodation is available in student dormitories. More information about housing options can be found here.

Entry Requirements: US citizens do not need a visa to enter Germany but will apply for a residence permit after arrival. 

Health Insurance: It is a university policy that all WIU students who study abroad are either covered under WIU student health insurance OR have purchased the Patriot Travel Medical Insurance plan through IMG.
