Quad Cities Campus

Welcome to WIU Quad Cities Initiatives

Western Illinois University-Quad Cities offers educational and fun programs for Quad Cities youth. Our programs are housed on the WIU-QC Campus located along the beautiful Mississippi River on the new Riverfront Campus located at 3300 River Drive in Moline, IL. Our philosophy is that learning happens best when people are connected and engaged, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Our camps help students connect what they learn in school with the world around them.

What's coming up?

  • Math on the Mississippi, Grades 4-6 (June 15-19, 2020) & Grades 6-8 (June 22-26, 2020).

This commuter program on the WIU-QC Campus is offered in two sessions for both older and younger students. Our program is designed to introduce participants to science and math concepts in a hands-on learning environment that will expand their understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in a fun and engaging way. Program coordinators and instructors include professors from the WIU-QC math and physics departments, Master teachers from the area schools, as well as STEM professionals. Our theme is "We'll ratio to the top!" We look for all the ways ratios and mathematical reasoning can be used to understand our world. The entire QC area is our classroom!

  • Muggles in a Wizard's World, Grades 4-8 (July 13-17, 2020)

This commuter program on the WIU-QC campus is specifically designed to engage students who read and enjoy the Harry Potter series. Under the instruction of faculty and staff of Western Illinois University-QC and librarians from the Moline Public Library, students expand their enjoyment of the Harry Potter series while at the same time developing their critical thinking and creative skills.

This year, we'll have two camps running simultaneously. The first camp is for new students who will have a chance to explore the series from the beginning. Participants will read from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and will explore the book and its themes using literature, art, and science. Returning students will delve into “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” In addition, participants will enjoy games of Quidditch, Dueling Wands, Hide and Seek, and chess.
