Welcome to the Financial Aid process at Western Illinois University! The application process is an annual activity beginning anytime after January 1 for the following academic year (fall, spring and summer). The WIU priority consideration date is February 1, but applications are accepted throughout the year. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required for all federal aid and the Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP).

Before you begin, some of the following information may be helpful:


The Following information will be required to complete the FAFSA:

  • Social Security Numbers-Be sure that they are correct
  • Records of Income-Income earned from work and business, child support paid or received and any other untaxed income. If you have them, refer to the W-2 Forms or Federal Tax Return IRS 1040, 1040A or 1040 EZ
  • Information about Assets-Savings, certificates of deposit, stock options, bonds, 529 plans and other college savings programs; and investment real estate, business and farm
  • Driver's License Number-If you have one
  • Month and Year of Marriage, Separation, Divorce, and other change in Marital Status
  • Alien Registration Number-If you (student) are not a U.S. Citizen
