VIVA Quad Cities Scholarship Award Dinner
2010 VIVA Scholarship Recipients
Two Western Illinois University-Quad Cities students have received scholarships and were recently recognized at the VIVA Quad Cities Scholarship Award Dinner at the Iwireless Center in Moline. Mary Dixon and Micaela Martinez will receive about $1,000 each and are two of 15 area college students who received the award.
According to Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President, Alfred Ramirez, "VIVA Quad Cities provides scholarships to deserving, talented students who have already contributed to their communities in various ways. Sponsors of the scholarships, such as, Western Illinois University, are to be congratulated for their key role in making it all possible. The banquet was a huge success!"
For the first time this year, recipients were honored at a scholarship award dinner. That event also will help raise money for future scholarships. "I am very proud of our participation in Viva and the origin of VIVA from WIU," said Vice President Quad Cities Planning and Technology, Dr. Joe Rives. Viva Quad Cities Fiesta celebrates Hispanic culture and has provided $218,000 in college scholarships since its inception 17 years ago.
