The School Psychology Program has long standing relationships with the Macomb Public Schools (District 185) and with many schools in the west central Illinois area. Typically, first year students are assigned to schools in the West Prairie, LaHarpe, Bushnell, and Industry school district for their practicum experiences. Second year students work more closely with area school psychologists in Macomb, West Prairie, Bushnell, Dallas City school districts, and in the Knox-Warren special education cooperative.
Students are placed in the local Head Start during their first year in the Program in order to gain experience with a diverse birth-to-5 population. Experience with Head Start provides exposure to developmental and assessment issues with an early childhood population.
Although students complete the majority of their practicum work in public school settings, we do have an on-campus Psychoeducational Clinic. The Clinic accepts referrals from parents in cases where a second opinion is warranted. Students work under faculty supervision on these cases.
