President's New Student Convocation: Faculty/Staff Information
All WIU faculty and staff are invited to attend this special ceremony, which formally welcomes our newest students to Western Illinois University.
The August 17, 2013, convocation will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a formal academic procession including the stage party, faculty, and administrators in full academic regalia. Faculty and staff who hold a master’s degree or higher are encouraged to participate in the procession.
To March in the Academic Procession
Faculty and staff who wish to march in the academic procession should inform the Office of the Provost via this Web site or telephone (309) 298-1066. Academic regalia may be rented from the University Bookstore through July 19. (Order before July 5 to guarantee hood colors.) Processional robing and line-up will take place in the East Arena of Western Hall beginning at 4:30 p.m. Participants should be in the processional line by 5:15 p.m.
To Participate in the Convocation But Not March
Faculty and staff who wish to attend the Convocation but not march in the academic procession are not required to register with the Office of the Provost. These participants should be seated in the Western Hall reserved seating area by 5:15 p.m. Convocation ushers will be present to provide directions to the reserved seating area.
Convocation participants are invited to attend the President’s Family Picnic on the campus mall,
southwest of the Spencer Student Recreation Center, immediately following the Convocation.
