Section 402 of the 1974 Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act and Section 503 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act require WIU to take affirmative action to employ and advance in employment qualified disabled veterans*, veterans of the Vietnam Era*, and individuals with disabilities**.

* The Act defines Vietnam Era veterans as those who served more than 180 days on active duty between August 1964 and May 1975; a disabled veteran is a person with a 30 percent disability under the Veterans Administration laws.
** The Americans with Disabilities Act defines an individual with a disability as any person who has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more of such person's major life activities, has a record of such impairment, or is regarded as having such an impairment.
