The Western Illinois University School of Nursing is expecting an accreditation evaluation visit from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), for continuing accreditation of the baccalaureate degree program in Nursing on February 22-24, 2010. We were informed that third parties are encouraged to send letters on our behalf to the commission. As a valued member of our school of nursing community, we would deeply appreciate your help in this accreditation process by asking you to send letters to the CCNE by January 22, 2010, describing your support, impressions and affiliation with the Western Illinois University School of Nursing, its faculty and students.

Message from the Director:

Welcome to the School of Nursing at Western Illinois University. Our present and future focus is to prepare nurses as excellent health care leaders for the state of Illinois and Regional areas, particularly for rural settings. The faculty are dedicated to teaching, research, and practice to ensure that each graduate can maximize his or her own career goals. We provide programs of the highest quality that are innovative using a variety of teaching/learning modalities.

Our vision to increase and advance the nursing workforce is exemplified by faculty and administrators devoted to academic excellence and supportive learning environments. In our nursing resource center, there are many computer simulation programs as well as simulators for students to practice new skills before entering the actual health care environment. Our approach to learning is student centered with students engaged in active learning.
