Auditions for 'The Vagina Monologues' Nov. 16-17 at WIU

MACOMB, IL - - Auditions for "The Vagina Monologues" at Western Illinois University will be held Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 16-17 in the Multicultural Center.
Female members of the WIU community are invited to audition. According to Women's Center Graduate Assistant Matthew Nelson, the event organizers are seeking a diverse cast of approximately 15 women. Theatre experience is not required. Those auditioning will be given selections from the play to read.
Women interested in auditioning must call the Women's Center at (309) 298-2242 in advance to sign up for a 10-minute audition time slot. Auditions will be held in the center's Multipurpose Room.
Men are also invited to participate in V-Day WIU 2010 through helping with production, publicity and coordinating complementary events in the Multicultural Center, including a new V-Men component.
All cast and crew members will need to be available for a retreat from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 as well as the rehearsals (dates and times to be announced) and all three performances, which will take place Feb. 11-13, 2010.
The V-Day College Campaign is sponsored by the WIU Women's Center and Feminist Action Alliance. Ninety percent of the funds raised by "The Vagina Monologues" performances will be donated to local organizations that provide violence prevention education and support services, including the Western Illinois Regional Council—Community Action Agency Victim Services (WIRC-CAA), the Women's Center and the University Counseling Center. The remaining 10 percent raised will be donated to help stop the sexual violence that has afflicted women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The 2009 International V-Day spotlight is "Women Breaking the Silence" as part of the joint global campaign: "Stop Raping Our Greatest Resource: Power to Women and Girls in Democratic Republic of Congo."
