WIU To Provide H1N1 Vaccine

MACOMB, IL -- Working in conjunction with the McDonough County Health Department, Western Illinois University's Beu Health Center is expected to provide the H1N1 vaccine to WIU students, faculty and staff based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations/priority groups.
According to Beu Health Center Director Mary Margaret Harris, Beu will provide the vaccine to faculty, staff and students in the following groups recommended by the CDC. Individuals must present a current WIU ID.
* Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel
* Individuals through 24 years of age
* Individuals aged 25 through 64 years who have health conditions associated with higher risk of medical complications from influenza.
* Pregnant women
* Household contacts and caregivers for children younger than 6 months of age.
"We hope that our students will seriously consider receiving the vaccination as there are many cases of H1N1 among healthy young adults in the 19 through 24 age group," Harris added. "Our students live, work and study in close proximity and they are a mobile population so we encourage them to receive the vaccine."
