Just Hired! Through the experiences of local, regional, national and international students, Western Illinois University has some incredible alumni who are changing
the world in the workforce. This series will feature students from all over the world who are hired post-graduation.

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - Meet Lonita Ash, a Master of Business Administration - Human Resources student at WIU who recently took a job with the Administrative Office of the United States Courts.

Ash said they came across the job while searching for internships and decided to submit an application. After filling out a questionnaire, they advanced to a 30-minute Zoom interview where they highlighted their experience at WIU to secure the position.

"While my major provided me with foundational knowledge, it was both my classes with Human Resource Management Professor Susan Stewart and my graduate assistantship that prepared me for the human resource environment," Ash said. "Serving as an Assistant Complex Director at University Housing and Dining Services introduced me to critical human resource functions such as onboarding, recruiting and conduct. This practical experience, combined with academic learning, has equipped me with the confidence and skills needed to succeed."

Ash graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in English with a pre-Master of Business minor. They will be returning to WIU in the fall to complete their master's degree.

"I'll be returning to complete my degree and continue working at Corbin/Olson within UHDS," they said. "If you see me around campus, don't hesitate to stop and say hello!"
