Ahl Named GM of Tri States Public Radio at WIU

MACOMB, IL – Jonathan Ahl has been named the general manager of Tri States Public Radio (WIUM/WIUW), a unit of the Western Illinois University College of Fine Arts and Communication, effective Aug. 20, according to COFAC Dean William T. (Billy) Clow.
From 2008-2012, Ahl has served as the news director at Iowa Public Radio (Des Moines). In that position, he was responsible for all content on news streams of Iowa Public Radio, including local news productions and the selection and scheduling of national programs. Also as the news director at Iowa Public Radio, he managed several news staffers at five locations across Iowa. Prior to working at Iowa Public Radio, Ahl served as news director (1997-2008) and as a producer/reporter (1997-2000) at WCBU-FM in Peoria. He also served as a news reporter/anchor at WMBD-AM in Peoria (1996-1997); as a statehouse reporter/anchor for Illinois Public Radio/WUIS, Springfield (1995-1996); and as a reporter/announcer for WIUM-FM in Macomb (1994-1995).
"We are very excited to add Jonathan's rich experience and energy to our College, and we look forward to great things," Clow noted.
During his career, Ahl has received several awards for his reporting and radio broadcasting work including: in 2009, the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) Edward R. Murrow Award Regional – Continuing Coverage; in 2008, the Iowa Associated Press Broadcasting Award – Best Political Coverage; in 2006, the RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Regional Award – Best Sports Report; and the 2003 Illinois Associated Press Broadcasting Award – Best Investigative Reporting.
"Tri States Public Radio is a great organization, and I'm excited to work with the dedicated staff members to build upon the great work they are doing," Ahl said. "In many ways, this feels like a homecoming for my family, as my wife and I are both alumni, and Macomb is my wife's hometown."
Ahl received his master's degree from the University of Illinois-Springfield and his bachelor's degree from WIU.
