February 10, 2012

MACOMB, IL -- A farewell reception will be held Tuesday, Feb. 21 for Beth Seaton, director of the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) at Western Illinois University, who has been named the director of Research Administration for the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University. Seaton will begin her duties at Northwestern Feb. 27.

The reception will be held from 3-5 p.m. Feb. 21 in the University Union Lincoln Room.

Shannon Sutton, grants and contracts administrator II in WIU's Business Services' Accounting Office, has been named interim director of the Office of Sponsored Projects. A national search will be held at a later date.

Seaton has served as the OSP director since 1997. In this role, she was responsible for the oversight of pre-award and non-financial post award functions of the office, as well as the compliance area. Seaton has been a member of the sponsored projects staff since 1989. Prior to coming to WIU, she was a research administrator at Texas A&M University.

"Beth's experience with research administration and her many contributions to Western will be missed," said WIU Provost Ken Hawkinson. "We wish her the best of luck as she embarks on this new chapter in her career."

Recently, Seaton was selected to receive the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) 2011 Distinguished Service Award. Since joining NCURA in 1989, Seaton has served in various capacities, including serving on the program committee for the 53rd annual meeting and as a faculty member for NCURA's "Fundamentals of Sponsored Project Administration" workshop. Throughout the years, Seaton has served on the professional development committee, evaluation subcommittee, select committee on peer review, contributing editor of the NCURA Magazine and as an NCURA/EARMA international research management fellow. She is also a well-known speaker at both regional and national NCURA meetings.

Seaton received her master's degree in economics from Western and her bachelor's degree in economics from Texas A&M University.
