Graphic Communication Club Collects Toys for Project Santa

December 9, 2013

MACOMB, IL – As the holiday season fast approaches, the Graphic Communication Club at Western Illinois University held a toy drive to benefit Macomb's Project Santa program.

This is the third year the students have held the event, and this year's collection brought in 418 new, unwrapped toys. Last year's drive brought in 320 toys.

The drive, organized by engineering technology instructors Joyce Runquist and Catherine Drinka, ended Monday, Dec. 2 as students returned to campus from Thanksgiving break.

"It is exciting to know that we are helping to brighten our community through this program," Runquist said. "Our students prove to be generous and compassionate and concerned with helping others."

Project Santa is a program of the Western Illinois Regional Council (WIRC) office in Macomb, and it provides toys, clothing and food baskets to hundreds of local children and families during the holiday season.
