November 8, 2013
MACOMB, IL – South Elgin High School senior Hilary Dunn, of South Elgin, IL, has been selected for Western Illinois University's Centennial Honors Scholarship, which covers four years of tuition, fees and a residence hall room at the school.
High school students with an ACT score of 32 or higher and a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.
Dunn said she expects to major in medical sciences at Western, with a possible double major in biochemistry or microbiology.
"The people at Western are incredibly welcoming," Dunn said of her college choice. "They seemed more than willing to work with me and helped me tremendously with the offer of a scholarship. The campus was so inviting when I visited, and after speaking with the Honors faculty and learning of the incredible opportunities ahead, I knew Western was indeed a special place."
At Western, Dunn said she hopes to participate in campus Christian organizations and ministries and academic honor societies related to her major, that would allow service opportunities.
After graduation, Dunn hopes to pursue a medical degree or train further to be a pharmacist.
In high school, Dunn was president of the Uprising Christian group, secretary and president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and a member of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, the school orchestra and the Rotary Interact Service Club.
