Hawkinson Named to National Board for Collective Bargaining
May 2, 2013
MACOMB, IL -- Ken Hawkinson, provost and academic vice president at Western Illinois University, has been named to the board of the National Center for the Study of Collective Bargaining in Higher Education (NCCB).
The center is housed in and supported by Hunter College of The City University of New York (CUNY) and by its 500 institutional and individual members. Since 1972, it has served as a clearinghouse and forum for those engaged in the study and practice of collective bargaining (and the related processes of grievance administration and arbitration) in colleges and universities. University administrators and union leaders collaborate in all of the NCCB's activities which include an annual national conference, publications and regional seminars and training sessions.
"Dr. Hawkinson has negotiated from both the union and administration sides of the table for every major contract at Western Illinois University since the inception of the Board of Trustees," said WIU President Jack Thomas. "His unique experience of having served as both a union president and provost and academic vice president qualifies him to serve on this board and to speak to a national audience on collective bargaining and contract administration."
Hawkinson will begin his duties this fall.
"I am honored to be named to the board of this very important center and I look forward to working with national labor leaders and administrators to work to ensure that labor and administration engage in constructive dialogue and principled negotiations that will lead to the betterment of each institution," Hawkinson said.
