Elzer Honored with Elkin-Larkin Award
April 24, 2013
MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University sophomore Angela Elzer (Marseilles, IL) is the recipient of the 2012-2013 Elkin-Larkin Award, given to an outstanding student in the University Advising program.
Elzer, a biology major, was chosen for the award based on her outstanding academic background and her involvement with the University. She was awarded $200, and her name will be inscribed on a plaque in the University Advising and Academic Support Center (UAASC).
The award is given in honor of the late Robert Elkin and the late Jeanne Larkin, both former UAASC staff members. The UAASC program allows students who enter the University without a major to explore different fields of study prior to declaring a major.
Academic advisers work closely with students, helping them identify their interests, values and abilities. Typically 20-30 percent of all freshmen enter Western through the University Advising program. Students may remain in the program until they have completed 45 semester hours, half way through their sophomore year, when they must declare a major.
