MACOMB, IL -- A group of Saudi men and women students at Western Illinois University's Macomb campus will participate in a nationwide event Friday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 10 that is designed to share messages of love and peace.
According to Eshraq Alkhabbaz, president of the Saudi Women's Group and a WIU alumna, her group, as part of the nationwide effort to share the peaceful messages of the Prophet Mohammed, will help distribute 600 roses on the WIU-Macomb campus beginning at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8 , and again on Sunday, Feb. 10 at The First Christian Church in Macomb . Alkhabbaz noted the average number of roses to be distributed, in the 50 currently participating cities across the U.S., is 1,000.
"The goals of this event are to promote peace, love, and compassion which the Prophet Mohammed advocated, and to bridge cultural misunderstanding between Saudis and Americans. "Our group will share these lovely flowers with passersby, along with attached positive peaceful messages from the Prophet Mohammed's teachings and based on our mutual respect . We aim to ease the conflicts that arose over the last decade regarding our culture and to melt all traces of misconceptions."
