Eric Kim to Perform Jan. 19

MACOMB, IL - - Cellist and former Macomb resident Eric Kim will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 in the Western Illinois University’s College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.
Kim will perform “Sonata No. 6 in A Major, G.4” by Luigi Boccherini, “Sonata No. 1 in E Minor, Op. 38,” by Johannes Brahms, “Sonata (1915),” Claude Debussy, “Polonaise Brilliante, Op.3,” by Frédéric Chopin and “Chant Du Méntrel, Op. 71,” by Alexander Glazunov. Minjung Seo will accompany Kim.
Kim, a Macomb High School graduate, is the son of Hyung Ja Kim of Macomb, who was an assistant professor of piano and voice in Western's music department, and the late Hei Chu Kim, a sociology professor at Western.
Kim has performed worldwide and made his solo debut at age 15 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The son of former WIU piano professor Hyung-Ja Kim, Kim has performed at numerous festivals including Angel Fire (NM), Aspen, La Jolla, Orcas Island (WA), Sangat (India), Athens (Greece), Mostly Mozart (NY), Sante Fe and Savannah. He has performed along side Joshua Bell, Emmanuel Ax, Yehim Bronfman, Susan Graham, Lynn Harrell, Stephen Hough, Jaime Laredo and Gil Shaham.
Kim currently teaches at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, as well as the Music Masters Course held in Kasuza, Yokohama and Toyko, Japan. He earned his bachelor and master’s of music from the Juilliard School.
A native to Korea, Seo is a faculty assistant at Western, and she has served as faculty at North Carolina School of the Arts, the Banff Centre in Canada, and the Heifetz International Music Institute in New Hamshire. Seo has also studied at Indiana University and at Juilliard.
The concert is open free to the public.
