MACOMB, IL – Beginning with the Fall 2017 semester, the Western Illinois University College of Arts and Sciences will offer an online major in anthropology.

Students enrolled in the major will have the ability to take traditional face-to-face classes on the Macomb campus, online classes, or a combination of the two to earn their Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology degree.

"The online offering for the major will allow students flexibility on obtaining their degree and allows them to study from home or even another state," said WIU Sociology and Anthropology Assistant Professor Christina Davis.

WIU Sociology and Anthropology Associate Professor Patricia Anderson said the online offering gives students greater access to WIU classes.

"It is also convenient to those who are working day jobs and who may be single parents. We are thrilled to offer this new opportunity to WIU students," she said.

This online addition to WIU's academic schedule makes it the first anthropology program in the state, and one of only a few in the nation, to offer the major online.
