WIU Department of Geography Hosting Photography Contest

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Geography will host its annual photography contest, with entries accepted through Monday, Nov. 7.

Submitted photographs should be geographical in nature and must be the original work of the entrants. Photographs may not include recognizable people without a signed release. One entry is allowed per person.

Cash prizes will be awarded for the best student images and the best faculty and staff images. Student winners will be awarded $150 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place, and faculty and staff award winners will be given $100 for first place and $50 for second place.

Winners will be announced during the Geography Awareness Week Lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in Stipes Hall, room 121.

Contest entries can be emailed to geography@wiu.edu and include the photographer's full name, mailing address, email, picture title, location of the photograph plus the date it was taken. They can also be dropped off in Tillman Hall, room 312.

Digital photographs must be high resolution, with the longest side being a minimum of 1920 pixels. Files must be in .jpg form and not exceed 5 MB.

Contestants are not permitted to place watermarks, dates, signatures or copyright images onto the image. Entries received after 11:59 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7 will not be accepted.

Voting on the images will be conducted through the WIU Department of Geography Facebook Page at bit.ly/2din7oT.
