WIU President Jack Thomas signed the Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) proclamation, which states that the signee will take action to prevent sexual violence on his or her campus, today (March 31) in recognition of SAAM. The proclamation will be available for students, faculty, staff and community members to sign from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 in the University Union Concourse. MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University will observe Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in April.

The WIU Interpersonal Violence Prevention Committee (IVPC) is collaborating with the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access, Student Development Office, Women's Center, Multicultural Center, LGBT*QA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, queer/questioning, asexual/ally) Resource Center, Feminist Action Alliance (FAA) and University Union Board (UUB) to provide educational awareness programs and events throughout April for SAAM.

From 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday April 5, in recognition of the SAAM Day of Action, a table will be set up in the University Union concourse, where IVPC members will be handing out information, as well has have a proclamation available to sign.

Other events include:

Monday, April 4: Tabling from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the University Union Concourse; No H8 in My School from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the LGBT*QA Resource Center.

Wednesday, April 6: Free HIV and STI testing from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on the University Union first floor and at the Beu Health Center. Register online at beuonline.wiu.edu.

Saturday April 9: UnderSTAND Bystander Intervention Training for Those Who Want to Present the Program from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in Horrabin Hall.

Tuesday, April 12: Tabling from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the University Union Concourse.

Tuesday, April 19: Brown bag lunch, Being a Responsible Employee and Title IX Reporting from 12:10-12:50 p.m. in the University Union Cardinal/Oak room.

Wednesday, April 20: Tabling from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the University Union Concourse.

Friday, April 22: Clothesline Project from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Multicultural Center.

Wednesday, April 27: Denim Day – All University employees are encouraged to wear denim, with permission from his/her supervisor, as part of a national day of awareness. An informational table will also be set up in the University Union concourse from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Wednesday, April 27: FAA and the UUB present "The Hunting Ground" at 7 p.m. at the Multicultural Center.

April 1-30: Paint Your Town Teal and use the color teal to promote awareness in your community. Wear teal-colored clothing, tie a teal ribbon to your car, paint your nails teal and whatever else you can think of to do to inform others about sexual assault awareness and prevention by showcasing the color teal.
