WIU School of Nursing Granted 10-Year Accreditation

MACOMB, IL – The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) has granted a 10-year accreditation to the Western Illinois University School of Nursing's baccalaureate degree program in nursing.

The certification is retroactive to Feb. 9, which is the date of the commission's on-site visit to Western. The first on-site visit came five years ago, with Western's initial accreditation.

The accreditation is another milestone for the University's nursing program, which offers students a variety of academic options.

"I am very proud of the faculty and staff who uphold the quality nursing education for our students," said WIU School of Nursing Director Lea Monahan. "Our students are sought out by employers, and many have positions before graduation. The CCNE reaffirms we have a quality program."

The CCNE's purpose is to ensure the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate and residency programs in nursing. According to the CCNE's website, the commission's accreditation process identifies programs that engage in "effective educational practices."
