Mayborn Named Interim Associate Dean of WIU College Arts and Sciences

MACOMB, IL — Kyle Mayborn, professor in the Western Illinois University Department of Geology, has been named interim associate dean in the WIU College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), effective July 1.

Mayborn has served as a professor in the geology department since August 2000. His experience also includes working as a geologist for U.S. Geological Survey and Meridian Oil.

"Dr. Mayborn's contributions to the college and service on important college committees, including leadership positions on the CAS Faculty Council, College Personnel Committee and our Undergraduate Research Committee, will serve the College well," said CAS Dean Susan A. Martinelli-Fernandez.

Mayborn has an active research program in igneous petrology, including field work in Greenland, Labrador and northern Wisconsin. He has authored numerous publications and mentored many students as part of their undergraduate research experiences.

Mayborn received a Ph.D. (2000) in geology from the University of California-Davis, a master's of science (1993) in geology from Colorado State University and a bachelor's of science (1991) degree in geology from California State University, Bakersfield.
