Graduate Research Conference March 6 at WIU

MACOMB, IL – The second annual Graduate Research Conference at Western Illinois University will be held from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday, March 6 in the University Union.

Organizers said the conference, which will feature presentations by 72 WIU graduate student researchers, was formed to "celebrate discipline-specific research, as well as interdisciplinary engagement that encourages collaboration and professional networking among faculty and students across campus." During the conference, there will be 39 podium presentations, two performances and 31 posters on display.

All WIU graduate students were eligible to submit an abstract for this year's conference. The submissions were then reviewed by a committee of graduate faculty members.

The schedule for this year's event includes:

• 9:30-10:45 a.m.; 12:30-1:45 p.m. and 2-3 p.m.: Concurrent podium and performance sessions, University Union's Fox Room, Cardinal/Oak Room, Board Room and Algonquin Room

• 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Poster sessions, Heritage Room

• 3:30 p.m.: "Letters to a Young Researcher," keynote address by WIU biology Professor Brian Peer, Sandburg Theatre

• 4:30-5:30 p.m.: Awards ceremony in Sandburg Lounge

The conference is sponsored by the WIU College of Arts and Sciences; Nancy Parsons, associate provost & associate VP, academic affairs; WIU College of Education and Human Services; WIU Department of Physics; WIU Department of Economics and Decision Sciences; WIU Department of Biological Sciences; the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society; WIU Department of History; WIU Department of Kinesiology and the WIU Department of English and Journalism.
