Alumnus Brian VanAcker featured on National Recreational Sports and Fitness Day February 22

MACOMB, IL - -Western Illinois Univeristy alum Brian VanAcker will be the featured guest for National Recreational Sports and Fitness Day Wednesday, Feb. 22. at his alma mater.

VanAcker will lead two hour-long workshops at the Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center. The first, starting at 1:15 p.m., is "Beginning Running: Training for your first race," and the second at 2:15 p.m. will be "Long Distance Running: Half Marathons."

VanAcker, originally from Sheffield in west central Illinois, received his bachelor's degree (1999) in kinesiology and his master's degree (2001) in sports management from WIU. He is the organizational manager for the Chicago Area Runners Association (www.cararuns.org) and is an active recreation runner. He previously was in athletics marketing at Northwestern and Marquette universities.

Other activities from 11 a.m.- 5p.m. at the Spencer Recreation Center include analyzing golf swingings with Director of Golf Mel Blais, basketball hot shot competition and group fitness classes.
