MOLINE, IL -- Alison Shook, office support specialist for Western Illinois University-Quad Cities administration, has been named the WIU September Civil Service Employee of the Month.

According to her nominator, Shook provides "great faculty support and is positive, attentive to detail and conscientious."

"Alison has approximately 30 faculty assigned to her and also supervises other faculty support personnel and student workers. She handles it all with grace and dignity," her nominator added. "One day last fall I was ill and couldn't contact my graduate assistant with instructions for the class. I found out later that the graduate assistant had not shown up that day, so Alison handed out the assignment to the students, took care of taking roll and supervised the assignment. I was so grateful for her professionalism."

Shook began working at Western's QC campus in March 2007 as secretary III. She was reclassified, per audit, to her current position in March 2009.

"Alison is to be commended for her attitude, work ethic and the positive contributions she makes to this University," said Laura Caldwell, Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) public relations representative. "She is most deserving of this recognition."

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for this recognition should contact Caldwell at (309) 298-1000 or e-mail LM-Caldwell@wiu.edu.
