MACOMB, IL -- Chris Smith, an applications programmer I in Administrative Computing, has been named the Western Illinois University March Civil Service Employee of the Month.

According to Smith's nominator, Smith contributes to the department's "positive effort and image within the University with his positive attitude. He is also a perfectionist who doesn't quit until everything is working smoothly."

"Chris recently took on a project to develop a new computer program that hasn't been done before, and he demonstrated great enthusiasm and outstanding performance," his nominator added. "He took this on as a challenge and never gave up, even when he encountered many obstacles. The computer program he developed is a system that will be used campuswide and will save the University time, money and storage space."

Smith began working at Western in his current position in November 2005.

"Chris' accomplishments are outstanding and are worthy of recognition," said Laura Caldwell, Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) public relations representative. "We commend him for the work that he does for the University and going above and beyond the call of duty."

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for this recognition should contact Caldwell at 309/298-1917 or e-mail LM-Caldwell@wiu.edu.
