WIU to Host Kickoff to Black History Month Event Jan. 31

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University invites you to listen, learn, reflect and act to help us improve our community. The WIU Multicultural Center and Regional Council Community Action Agency Victim Services, in conjunction with One Human Family-Macomb, the city of Macomb, Illinois Extension and the Shared Community Action Group, will host a kickoff to Black History Month event from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31 in the WIU Multicultural Center. This event is open free to the public.

Participants will have the opportunity to build relationships among different groups of individuals in Macomb; this event includes a viewing of Racial Taboo, a 50-minute documentary exploring societal divisions that keep people apart. The documentary includes candid interviews and research findings. In addition, participants will break into small group discussions after the film to discuss future relationship-building and community engagement.
