WIU Students Receive Go West Security Awards

MACOMB, IL – Nine Western Illinois University students were honored Monday by GoWest/McDonough County Transit for their work as GoWest security officers.

• Officers Arnold Estrada, a sophomore physics major, of Chicago, and Olivia Hank, a freshman law enforcement and justice administration (LEJA) major, of Washington, IL, received their Probation Award for passing their probationary period.

• Corporal Cole Anderson, a junior LEJA major, of Bismarck, IL, received the Officer of the Semester award and was promoted to the new master sergeant of GoWest Security.

• Sergeant Stephanie Garcia, a junior LEJA major, of Bourbonnais, IL, received the Dedication of Excellence award.

• Corporal Timothy Worthem, a junior LEJA major, of Schaumburg, IL, was promoted to sergeant.

• Garica passed down her sergeant pins to Worthem to officiate him as GoWest Security's new sergeant.

• Corporal Nakyah Smith, a sophomore LJEA major, of Chicago, was promoted to lieutenant.

• Lieutenant Charlie Janes, a junior LEJA major, of Park Ridge, pinned Smith to officiate her as the new lieutenant of GoWest Security. Janes was previously named the 2022 Student Employee of the Year at WIU.

Isaac Marquez, a graduate student in public safety administration, of Spring Valley, IL, received the Years of Service award for his dedication to GoWest through his undergraduate and graduate school years.

The Go West Security Program, which began in 2005, was created to provide students an opportunity for a hands-on, practicum-driven experience, while also providing a service to the University community.
