Update: Silo Screen Postponed

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University School of Agriculture and the Collegiate Farm Bureau will offer free screenings of the movie "SILO" at Macomb's Rialto Cinemas and Rushville's Princess Theater in April.

A public viewing in Macomb will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 19 and in Rushville at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 26. A viewing for FFA members will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 19 at Rialto Cinemas.

Inspired by true events, "SILO" follows a harrowing day in an American farm town. Disaster strikes when teenager Cody Rose is entrapped in a 50-foot-tall grain bin. When the corn turns to quicksand, family, neighbors and first responders must put aside their differences to rescue Cody from drowning in the crop that has sustained their community for generations.

"Grain bin entrapments are one of the leading causes of injury and death on a farm, but they are preventable. This film is very important for everyone to see as is helps to educate farmers about grain bin safety, while also shedding light on the price that farmers pay to feed the world," Jana Knupp, Collegiate Farm Bureau advisor.

The event is sponsored by Cargill and the Sigma Alpha professional agriculture sorority, and other event partners include the McDonough County Farm Bureau, the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau, the Hancock County Farm Bureau, Illinois Senator Jil Tracy, Western Grain Marketing, LLC and the WIU Ag Mech Farm Expo.
