MACOMB, IL – The LGBT*QA Resource Center at Western Illinois University will host the Trans* Day of Remembrance vigil at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 in the Multicultural Center on the Macomb campus.

"The vigil remembers Trans* individuals who have been murdered in 2019, and also serves as a call to action that we will not stand for violence towards Trans* people, and together we can make a change," said Grace Davis, LGBT*QA Resource Center graduate assistant. "We mourn the lives our communities have lost, and celebrate the lives that those lost had lived."

During the event, the names of Trans* people killed this year will be read, and a candle will be lit for the memory of each.

According to the Human Rights Campaign, at least 22 transgender or gender non-conforming people have been fatally shot or killed by other violent means in 2019.

"We say at least because too often these stories go unreported -- or misreported," noted the HRC.

The Trans* Day of Remembrance is open to the public.
