MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Theatre and Dance will present "STUPID F****** BIRD," a play written by Aaron Posner and directed by WIU Theatre Professor Bill Kincaid, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, Sept. 25-28 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 in Hainline Theatre. The production's traditional music will be replaced by music written by WIU Master of Fine Arts graduate student Austin Roach, of Wasilla, AK, and freshman musical theatre major Valerie Cambron, of Lexington, KY.

"'Bird' takes the idea of a love triangle and extends it into something like a love hexagon," said Kincaid. "Almost everyone wants someone they can't have, and when someone gets who they want it can have devastating consequences. This re-imagining of Chekhov's classic 'The Seagull' brings the love hexagon brilliantly and vividly into the present, with character types and dialogue straight out of today's youth culture."

The play is about an aspiring young director who rampages against the art created by his mother's generation. A young actress also wrestles with an aging Hollywood star for the affection of a renowned novelist. The play outlines the timeless battle between young and old and past and present in search of "the true meaning of it all."

The production is rated "R" for language and adult situations.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $13 for senior citizens and youth and free for WIU students with valid identification.
