MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University School of Agriculture and the University Union Board will host the second annual "Food, Family, Farming, Football BBQ" competition Saturday, Sept. 14 in Q-Lot, just off University Drive in Macomb.

The event will be held during tailgating, prior to the Leatherneck football game against Montana State University on Hanson Field.

The event is a ribs and brisket competition for teams using a wood, charcoal, electric or propane smoker and this year's event includes a student division.

Guests may purchase tasting tickets to sample ribs and brisket and vote for their favorite. A panel of judges will also select the grand prizes in a variety of categories. Tasting tickets are for sale for two for $5 or one for $3. Football tickets are $10, or free for WIU students with valid identification. Event t-shirts are also for sale.

Last year's inaugural "Food, Family, Farming, Football BBQ" competition saw the sale of 2,000 tasting tickets and 600 T-shirts.

This year's event is sponsored by Smithfield, Sodexo, Citizens Bank, a division of Morton Community Bank, Compeer Financial, the McDonough County Farm Bureau and the Hancock County Beef Association.
