WIU Student Employee of the Year, Supervisor of the Year Named

MACOMB, IL – As part of the national celebration of Student Employment Week, Western Illinois University has honored the student employee of the year and the student employee supervisor of the year. The winners were named at a reception April 17.

Each year, WIU's student employment office appoints a selection committee to read and score the nominations on five attributes, including reliability, quality of work, initiative, professionalism and uniqueness of contribution.

The student employee winner, and recipient of a $750 award and a $250 book award, was Conner Hartman. He was nominated by Assistant Professor Susie Brooks, of the WIU Department of Mathematics and Philosophy. Hartman is a senior from Geneseo, IL, majoring in mechanical engineering.

The second place winner, and recipient of a $500 award and a $250 book award, was Jacob Sneade. He was nominated by Associate Professor Ranbir Kang of Earth, Atmospheric and Geographic Information Sciences. Sneade is a junior from Milan, IL, majoring in information systems.

Third place, and recipient of a $250 award and a $250 book award, was Ethan Massie. He was nominated by Russell Glaue of the Center for the Application of Information Technologies. Massie is a junior from Lindenhurst, IL, majoring in construction management.

The other student employee nominees included Devin Books, a sophomore broadcasting major from St. Louis, MO; Jessica Herrejon, a senior construction management major from Chicago; Bethany Stubbs, a sophomore information systems major from East Hazel Crest, IL; and Nicole Viveros, a senior management major from Chicago. Each nominee was given a certificate of appreciation.

The University Union Bookstore donated $250 in books to the winning student. The remainder of the awards are donated by Terri Hare, director of the WIU Office of Financial Aid.

There were 17 students who nominated their supervisors this year. Administrative Aide Nicole Friedrichsen, of the WIU-Quad Cities campus, was chosen as the student employee supervisor of the year, and was given a gift card to the University Union.

Supervisors are judged on mentoring skills, professionalism and leadership. Other nominees included Professor Chris Morrow, of the WIU Department of English; Library Operations Associate Greg Phelps; Program Coordinator Mandi McRaven; Athletic Communications Associate Diane Cassimire; Senior Library Specialist Sandra McVey; Program Coordinator Heather Griswold; Business Administrative Associate Jane Carlson; Bookstore Retail Manager Jeff Moore; former UTECH User Supervisor James Baker; Office Manager Sandra Boyer; Biology Instructor Victoria Livingston; University Housing and Dining Chief Clerk Angela Wagner; Beu Medical Record Technician Lisa Hart; Financial Aid Program Coordinator Febecca Fauvie and Accounting and Finance Office Support Specialist Rebecca Hall. Each nominee was given a certificate of appreciation.
