MACOMB, IL – Two Western Illinois University students were invited to Chicago recently to meet India's ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Harsh Vardhan Shringla, and the Consul General of India, Neeta Bhushan.

International graduate students Sai Krishna Samaymantri and Lokesh Babu Rayadurgam, both from India, received the invitations along with other Indian students attending college in the Midwest. The meeting was designed to build opportunities for the Consulate to engage with Indian students in their Midwest jurisdiction.

The Consulate is on a mission to leverage the students' interest, skills and talents to benefit India and build greater goodwill in the U.S. The event was held to lay down the foundation to build a stronger proactive student partnership.

Samaymantri and Rayadurgam were nominated for the experience by WIU Assistant Director of the School of Global Education and Outreach Christie Carmack.

Samaymantri said he and Rayadurgam met with the ambassador in person and presented him with a gift on behalf of the University.

"Most of all, representing WIU at such a big event was such a great pleasure," said Samaymantri. "I was also able to share some key points at the conference, along with the other students who were representing different schools from all over the Midwest. I got to learn and meet people from different professional and cultural backgrounds. Students from various universities with different majors brought their ideas to the table about future changes to technology, innovation and culture. I also learned about how people's life experiences brought them to such high-level status."
