MACOMB, IL -- To give the Western Illinois University community a little taste of this year's Dance Marathon, which will take place Saturday, March 30, the WIU Dance Marathon (DM) will hold a special Mini Dance Marathon from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21 in the Tanner Hall first floor lounge.

The mini marathon will feature snacks, DM swag for sale, music, Miracle Family stories, a preview of the official 2019 morale dance, a raffle and more. Individuals interested in taking part in the March 30 event are invited to attend to learn more. The event is open free to all WIU students.

The WIU DM works year-round to raise money for Children's Miracle Network hospitals, St. Louis Children's Hospital and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon. The event culminates March 30, 2019, with the 12-hour Dance Marathon, which honors the 12-hour shifts of doctors and nurses, as well as children who are unable to stand.

Western's Dance Marathon is entering its sixth year on the WIU campus, with this year's goal set at $150,000. Donations are welcome, and may be made by visiting https://tinyurl.com/yawrkc33 or emailing dancemarathon@wiu.edu. Last year's event raised more than $135,000.

The $135,000 raised during the 2017-2018 Dance Marathon pushed Western's five-year total to nearly half-a-million dollars ($405,000). The 2017 event raised $123,000; the 2016 event raised $70,800; the 2015 event raised $53,000; and the inaugural event in 2014 raised $22,000.
