UPDATE: Human Resources Director Interviews Set

UPDATE: NOTE SCHEDULE CHANGE DUE TO JAN. 30 WEATHER CLOSURE

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Interviews for the Western Illinois University human resources (HR) director position will be held Jan. 28-29, Jan. 31-Feb. 1 and Feb. 4-5.

Candidates include Amelia Hartnett, interim director of human resources, WIU (Jan. 28-29); Edward Choate, Choate Consultation Services, Republic, MO (Jan. 31-Feb. 1); and Amy Chambers, assistant to the academic vice president for budget and personnel, WIU (Feb. 4-5). Open sessions with campus and community members will be held from 3:30-4:20 p.m. Jan. 28 in the University Union Capitol Room (Hartnett), Jan. 31 (Choate) in the Union Lincoln Room and 3-3:50 p.m. Feb. 4 in the Union Capitol Room (Chambers) and 11:30-12:20 p.m. Jan. 29 (Hartnett), Feb. 1 (Choate) and Feb. 5 (Chambers) and in the Board Room on the WIU-Quad Cities campus.

Hartnett has served as interim director of human resources at WIU since November 2018. She had served as HR assistant director since March 2018. Previously, she had served as a human resource manager at WIU (December 2016-March 2018), and as a human resource specialist, human resource officer and human resource representative (2014-2016), office manager in the Women's Center (2010-2014) and office support specialist in the Department of Psychology (2009-2010). Hartnett has also worked as an administrative aide in psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago (2006-2009).

Hartnett received her MLAS from WIU, a graduate certificate in Human Resource Management from the University of Illinois at Springfield and her bachelor's degree from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Choate has operated Choate Consultation Services since March 2016. Previously, he served as the director of human resources at Missouri State University from 2009-2016. He has also served as director of human resources (2004-2009) and chief diversity officer (2006-2009) at Minnesota State University-Moorhead; employment and labor attorney, human resources (1997-2004) and associate vice president for student and university affairs (1992-1996) at Southern Connecticut University; and in private law practice in Carterville, IL (1980-1992).

Choate received his juris doctorate from the University of Notre Dame Law School, his master's degree from Southern Connecticut University and his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

Chambers has served as the assistant to the academic vice president for budget and personnel at WIU since January 2017. Previously, she was a human resource generalist at Great River Health Systems (Burlington, IA) from 2015-2017. She has also served as a human resource associate/assistant manager (2012-2015), benefits counselor (2008-2012), admissions/records representative (2006-2008), office support specialist (2002-2006) and office support associate (2001-2002), at WIU.

Chambers earned her MBA and her bachelor's in human resource management from Western, and an associate degree from Carl Sandburg College.

The director of the human resources oversees the classification, compensation, diversity outreach, employee and labor relations, employment and examination of approximately 1,000 classified staff. Additionally, the director oversees the benefits and employee assistance program for approximately 1,800 faculty, staff and administrators. The director develops and modifies functions; serves as the designated employer representative to the State Universities Civil Service System and State Universities Retirement System; fosters relationships with external constituencies; ensures that WIU maintains compliance with appropriate federal and state statutes, laws and regulations; and provides expert advice consistently across all employee groups.
