Analytics and Economics Day Oct. 26 at WIU

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Economics and Decision Sciences will host Analytics and Economics Day Friday, Oct. 26 in Stipes Hall, 121.

The event will include interactive sessions and presentations, as well as an alumni panel discussion.

This event schedule includes:

• 9 a.m. – "Misbehaving with Statistics" – An interactive session to see through the "many mischievous applications of statistics" – Assistant Professor J. Jou Babin and Instructor Haritima S. Chauhan.

• 10 a.m. – "Winning with Economics and Analytics" – A sit-down discussion with WIU's head women's basketball Coach J.D. Gravina on his use of economic decision making and analytics in coaching.

• 11 a.m. – "Two Truths and a Lie: What Economists Really Do at Fortune 500 Companies" – A presentation with Distinguished Alumnus Monica Grimsley, global operations leader for Deere & Company.

• 2 p.m. – "Preparing for the Jobs of the Future: An Alumni Panel" – Panelists include Helen Barajas (2004), senior retirement analyst at Exelon; Sidney Falzone (2012), finance manager at Sertifi, Inc.; Brooklin Salemi (2014), associate at Hickey & Associates; Anna Stinauer (2017), institutional research coordinator at Spoon River College; and Alex Walker (2017) senior economic analyst at Caterpillar, Inc.

All events are open free to the public and casual dress is encouraged.
